Top 3 Survey Responses: Survey (74%), Talk story session (56%), Observe a class (44%)September Question of the Month Summary:
With respect to the mission, what are the school’s areas of greatest strength, and in what areas would the school like to improve?
Two strengths frequently cited in responses: • We do well with the mission statement, "Develop intellectual, academic and physical potential to the fullest degree, preparing them for college and for challenges facing them now and in the future." • Our main strength is the people in our Punahou community. "Punahou celebrates the contributions of its 'ohana...this is a place that values its people." Two challenges frequently cited in responses: • To foster within each Punahou student, personal and social responsibility by developing empathy and compassion, and by embracing diversity at all levels, while cultivating moral reasoning that leads to moral action, personal leadership, and engaged citizenship. Although we generally do well with addressing this goal, there's always room for improvement. • How do we sustain being a close knit community when we're such a big school? "One area that needs attention is maintaining this community. We are getting more and more spread apart physically which makes it difficult to maintain friendships and collegial relationships." |
