July Question of the Month:
How might we engage students in the Self-Study process?
"We might engage students in the Self-Study process with a journal writing or journal learning or a blog. Each entry (not necessary daily) will ask a theme or a question to focus on." "Some ideas: 1) Integrate some of the reflective questions into the curriculum; this might be best done in Social Studies and English, or through a foreign language. 2) Ask students to respond anonymously for more honest answers. 3) Make involvement seem like an honor rather than a chore – show students how they can "speak truth to power" in positive, constructive ways to shape the future of their school." "Students in the Academy enjoy and appreciate involvement. The best place for this involvement is in a class since the tone will be appropriate and serious responses will be shared. Beginning with a topic such as "How do we create a healthy and positive environment at Punahou." Then having students share in an open conversation followed by carefully created feedback would yield good information. Our students are invested in their school and they willingly have a voice. "This might work in advisory groups but I would certainly be willing to try it in my Anatomy classes and Chemistry classes. " Thank you for all of the responses. Please contact your self-study team if you would like to provide additional feedback. http://punahouselfstudy.weebly.com/contact.html |
Self-Study Coincides with Punahou's 175th CelebrationIn the words of Dr. Jim Scott, "It is not enough to honor past accomplishments. Healthy institutions use celebrations as an opportunity to look ahead."
