March 2015 Recap47 entries were submitted to our Self-Study Response Feedback Form. Here is an overview of how accurate the proposed bullets were in answering the question.
The self-study team is utilizing the feedback to produce the next iteration of a response. Here is the question followed by sample feedback:
Student Learning Question 1: What are the fundamental assumptions or beliefs about how students best learn that guide the school’s work? How are those beliefs enacted in the classroom, and how effective are they in promoting student learning? Could you provide feedback on these bullets or provide bullets that would more accurately reflect the answer to this question? "Re: Students learn best when education is authentic, collaborative, and personalized Some kids learn best independently. There are legitimate arguments for collaboration, but not all learning has to be collaborative. Where is the place for original work and thinking? Where is the place for introverted, introspective students?" "I believe the word "fun" is missing from this document. There is no greater motivator than fun when it comes to educating a K-12 student body. I realize "fun" is a difficult standard to set, but so is "critical thinking" and "authentic."" How would you expand on either the bullets provided or on bullets that you have created? "I would add that students learn best when the lesson or activity is relevant to the students. By relevant, I mean that students can relate to what they are learning, understand (to a certain degree) why you are asking them to learn this and can see how this topic or activity might help them in their currently or in the future. When students are provided with context regarding what you are asking them to do, I feel they are much more invested, interested, engaged and involved." "Students learn best when they are provided enough time to construct their own meaning when learning something new. Students learn best when they receive immediate and specific feedback on their performance. Students learn best best when the development of positive attitudes and perceptions is made part of every learning task. Students learn best when they overcome obstacles and setbacks and problem solve. Students learn best when they are able to apply what they've learned in meaningful and purposeful ways." Thank you for all of the responses. Please contact your self-study team if you would like to provide additional feedback. http://punahouselfstudy.weebly.com/contact.html |
